Self-Reflection

Simple, but clever experience. I did well to adapt to the limited functions of the interface and create a repeatable, scalable mechanic (swipe and sort). I should obviously take some cues from games like Fruit Ninja and idle clickers.

As I noticed in class, everyone was eager to suggest additional improvements that offer more depth to the experience. Off the top of my head, these include adding more dynamic challenges, introducing progression systems, and exploring ways to make the core mechanic feel more rewarding over time.

Start Robbery!

This mini game is inspired by what we all have to do every day as students, sorting different files or dragging them into different folders on the computer. Constantly clicking and dragging is tedious, but we do it every day to the point where we have muscle memory for mouse clicks and movements. At the same time, the recent AAA game Pay Day 3 was also released, so I made this bank robbery game based on the thrill of 2D bank robbery and dragging cash and gold into my pocket.

  • More variation in the materials we rob - coins might be fast and light butt low value, or coins of a certain color may be a more valuable than others

  • More variables in the environments 

  • Use a tool like midjourney to build your art uniquely, since most of it is really just about slicing a section of the main image and showing the content. The GameSalad art is fine, but isn’t unique.

  • Consider using particle effects to better help with feedback when we touch and fail or succeed. Likewise glow effects or other visual cues tied to audio will help it feel more exciting. 

  • Be careful with your disembodied hand as it looks more like it’s part of a horror game than a playful experience in this context. You might simply want to use a hand icon

This is the first game prototype I’ve ever made, and I feel I did well to come up with an idea, follow it through, and implement it independently without issues. I’m excited to keep making more, and as the saying goes, “the first ten games are all rubbish,” so I’m ready to keep going and make my next one.
